Habit building
How to Restart a Habit After Missing Several Days
A recovery process that uses the interruption as information instead of proof that the habit failed.
Remove the catch-up requirement
You usually do not need to repay missed repetitions. An oversized recovery session raises the cost of returning.
Choose the next reasonable cue
Name the next time and place the minimum version can happen. Make the decision before the cue arrives.
Restart, then investigate
Complete one small repetition before redesigning everything. Afterwards, ask whether the interruption came from schedule, health, environment, clarity, or changing priorities.
Revise one variable
Change one part of the plan and observe the next week. A restart is evidence that the system can recover.
